Melania Knauss was born on April 26, 1970, in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, which was part of Yugoslavia at the time. Known today as Melania Trump, she obtained permanent residency in the United States in 2001 and became a U.S. citizen in 2006. She became First Lady when her husband, Donald Trump, was elected President of the United States in 2016. As the second immigrant First Lady in American history, she secured her place in the nation’s history. Additionally, she is known as the second immigrant First Lady of the country, following Louisa Adams, the 6th U.S. First Lady.
Melania grew up in Sevnica, Slovenia. While pursuing a degree in architecture at the University of Ljubljana, she left her studies in the first year to embark on a modeling career. At 17, she began posing for Slovenian photographer Stane Jerko, and at 18, she signed with a modeling agency in Milan. Throughout her career, she has appeared on the covers of prestigious magazines such as Ocean Drive, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, and Vogue. She also speaks several languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Serbo-Croatian, and Slovene.
