Murat Kurum Brief Biography
Murat Kurum was born on May 7, 1976, in the Çankaya district of Ankara. He completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara and then graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Selçuk University in Konya. In 2017, he completed his master’s degree in urban transformation at Okan University’s Institute of Science.
Starting his career by working on construction sites, Kurum began working as a specialist in the Application Department of TOKİ (Housing Development Administration of Turkey) in 2005 and was appointed as the Minister of Environment and Urbanization in 2018. During his tenure, he became known for his work on social housing projects, urban transformation projects, and efforts against natural disasters.
In 2024, Murat Kurum was reappointed as the Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change and also became the candidate for Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor from the Justice and Development Party. However, he lost the election to the candidate from the Republican People’s Party, Ekrem İmamoğlu. Murat Kurum married Şengül Kurum in 2000 and is the father of three children. He is 1.80 m tall, weighs 78 kg, and is recognized by his black eyes and black hair. A Taurus by zodiac sign, Kurum has been involved in numerous significant projects throughout his career.
